Press Release: Newton Woman's Club donates to Second Step in Newton

The Newton Highlands Woman’s Club was recently awarded a Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Club Grant by the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs of Massachusetts to be used in support of Second Step, a Newton organization that supports women and their families who have been subjected to domestic violence.

The GFWC Massachusetts Club Grants seek to encourage member clubs to reach out to domestic violence shelters in their communities with both material and monetary donations as well as support as volunteers. The Newton Highlands Women’s Club annually gives support to Second Step. The grant that was awarded by the GFWC in the amount of $400.00 was received as a result of a competitive grant application. The funds were used to purchase sheets as requested by Second Step. Two large sets of sheets, comforters, shams and bed skirts were purchased in addition to 15 sets of sheets.

Second Step attended the Newton Highlands meeting on November 20th to receive the donation of sheets. Lynne Stader, President of GFWC Massachusetts said “Through the GFWC Signature Program on Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention, GFWC club women speak with one voice, working with national domestic violence prevention networks as well as in our own communities.”

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is one of the oldest, long-serving national women’s organizations with 80,000 members dedicated to volunteer service.
